Description
2016, Mixed Media (acrylic and gold leaf on canvas), 18×24″
Kintsukuroi (to repair with gold) or kintsugi (golden joinery) is the Japanese art of mending broken pottery with gold. Kintsukuroi celebrates the repair of the piece by acknowledging its history of brokenness and affirming that the piece is more beautiful and precious for having been broken and repaired. As depicted here, the surrounding hues of blues and green represent the peace and vivacity that stem from healing and recovery.
